Equipping the dismounted soldier to deliver variable effects in a changing combat environment

The section of the armed forces in most countries across the world which is directly bearing the burden of direct combat action is the infantry. High profile combat operations by many nations over the last decade in locations such as Afghanistan and Iraq have been infantry combat intensive and highly challenging. Ministries of Defence are concerned with harnessing their own research and development resources and the innovations that the market is offering in order to make their infantry best placed to deal with diametrically opposed operational environments.

This years Infantry Weapons Event will present an opportunity for leading personnel from a variety of militaries to gain important knowledge about how other infantries are being resourced and adapted to ensure optimum capability in a variety of hazardous operational environments, as well giving industry a platform to demonstrate their solutions directly to those responsible for ensuring the fighting capability of dismounted combat operations.

The Major Themes for this Year’s Conference include:

  • Latest developments and projects focusing on small arms replacement and the weapons interface component from a range of Soldier Modernisation Programmes.
  • Optics, Fire Control Systems and Laser Rangefinders for improved target acquisition, precision and probability of hit in urban environments and open terrain
  • Key developments in support weapon programmes, particularly projected high explosives. This year will extensively focus on Anti-Armour, Anti-Tank and Anti-Structures Munitions
  • Updating attendees with newly identified requirements and technological advances relating to Grenade Launchers and Mortars.
  • Theatre feedback of current infantry weapon capabilities, providing attendees with the latest information on the challenges faced by the dismounted soldier, typical mission scenarios and capability gaps
  • Ammunition technologies, including programmed grenades and small calibre improvements such as tracer rounds and lightweight / caseless ammunition.
